Which of your December evenings in Parrish need a ticket, and which ones only need a parking spot?
The answer splits along two addresses. One is the Florida Railroad Museum's depot at 12210 83rd St East. Its holiday train runs on a fixed schedule, popular departures sell out, and there is no waitlist. The other is Parrish Community Park at 7550 Fort Hamer Rd. Most of the town's free holiday gatherings take place there, and for nearly all of them you can just show up. These two calendars overlap on several dates in 2026, and some of those evenings can hold both. Book the train tickets first, because the park events don't need a reservation.
The train sets the dates everything else bends around
The North Pole Express runs on select evenings from Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving, through Tuesday, December 22. Most evenings have two departures, at 5:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. The full 2026 schedule:
- November: Friday the 27th, Saturday the 28th, Sunday the 29th
- December, week one: Wednesday the 2nd through Sunday the 6th
- December, week two: Wednesday the 9th through Sunday the 13th
- December, final run: Wednesday the 16th through Tuesday the 22nd
The night is longer than many families expect. The Florida Railroad Museum says the whole outing takes about 3¾ hours, starting with roughly 45 minutes on the train out to the North Pole stop and then about 2½ hours there. According to the museum's timetable, the 5:15 train gets back to Parrish at 9 p.m. and the 7:15 train at 11 p.m. If you're bringing small children, that difference may matter more than anything else on this page.
Every ticket includes the round-trip ride, a visit with Santa in his private office, a gift for each child, unlimited cookies and hot chocolate, campfires, storytelling, model train displays, reindeer food, and access to the toy tent. S'mores kits and extra food are sold separately at the North Pole.
Booking works differently from the rest of the season. The museum warns that "space is limited, and popular departures will sell out quickly." It does not keep a waitlist for sold-out departures. Fares change with the date, departure time, class, seat type and guest age, and online and phone orders carry a service fee. You'll see the current price once you pick a date in the museum's booking system, or you can buy at the Parrish Ticket Office. Annual Pass holders get early access to North Pole Express tickets one week before the general public. For families who ride every year, that week is the pass's main benefit.
The museum also asks riders to arrive 45 to 60 minutes before departure. Boarding starts 30 minutes ahead, at 4:45 p.m. for the early train and 6:55 p.m. for the late one. That arrival window decides which park events you can fit in on the same night.
The park fills in around it, for free
Parrish Community Park, across from Parrish Community High School on Fort Hamer Rd, handles the free half of the season. The Parrish Civic Association, Manatee County and an independent market organizer all hold events there.
The biggest is the Parrish Hometown Christmas, on Sunday, December 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. Admission is free. The Civic Association describes an evening of holiday activities, market shopping, food, Santa, children's games and entertainment, and local business sponsorships help put it on. If you run a small business and want a booth, the association takes vendor requests by email through the event page.
Holiday ShopFest comes the weekend before, on Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. The Fun 4 Manasota Kids listing promises local makers, boutique vendors, food trucks and live island music.
Manatee County also runs outdoor movie nights at the park from 6 to 8 p.m. The December one is Friday the 4th, with Minions & Monsters listed on the county's event page. County listings sometimes change, so check that page the week of the show.
Where the two calendars land on the same day
On four dates in December, both venues have something scheduled.
| Date | Parrish Community Park | Florida Railroad Museum depot |
|---|---|---|
| Fri, Dec 4 | Movie night, 6 to 8 p.m. | North Pole Express evening departures |
| Sat, Dec 5 | Holiday ShopFest, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | North Pole Express evening departures |
| Sun, Dec 6 | Holiday ShopFest, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | North Pole Express evening departures |
| Sun, Dec 13 | Parrish Hometown Christmas, 4 to 8 p.m. | North Pole Express evening departures |
ShopFest weekend fits together most easily because the market runs in daylight. A family can spend the morning at the park and still get to the depot within the museum's recommended arrival window for either departure.
December 13 calls for a decision. Hometown Christmas opens at 4 p.m. Arriving 45 to 60 minutes ahead of the 5:15 train means being at the depot by 4:15 to 4:30, which leaves almost no time at the park. A 7:15 ticket changes that. If you reach the depot by 6:15 or 6:30, you can spend about two hours at Hometown Christmas first.
Friday, December 4 doesn't work for both. The 6 to 8 p.m. movie overlaps the arrival window and departure time for both trains, so a family that wants the film and the train should book the North Pole Express for a different night.
The table also shows that the most crowded weekends at the park fall in early and mid December. The train's final stretch, December 16 through 22, has no competing park events, and it includes Monday and Tuesday departures.
November, before the train starts
The season starts at the park weeks before the first North Pole departure.
- Friday, November 6: The county's November movie night at the park shows Toy Story 5, 6 to 8 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 11: The Parrish Civic Association holds its 2nd Annual Parrish Veterans Day Parade. It steps off at 10 a.m. from the Ft. Hamer roundabout, goes to Erie and back, and is followed by a ceremony at Parrish Community Park around 11. Parade participants stage in the Parrish Community High School student lot at 7505 Fort Hamer Road, and there's no fee.
- Saturday, November 21: Manatee County holds Run Manatee at Rye Preserve, with a 5K or walk, other activities and a marketplace. You need to register for the 5K.
The railroad has a quieter option too. The museum runs its diesel-powered Willow Express on most weekends. It's a 1.5-hour round trip from Parrish to Willow, where the museum has added storage tracks and built a replica Seaboard Air Line station. That's about 40% of the North Pole Express's 3¾ hours. For a toddler who's never been on a train, or for out-of-town guests who arrive before Thanksgiving, the Willow trip gives you the same depot and the same rails on an easier schedule.
One December Saturday, mapped
Here is how Saturday, December 5 could go, using only events on the 2026 calendars:
- 10 a.m.: Arrive at Holiday ShopFest in Parrish Community Park when it opens, with local makers and boutique vendors.
- Lunch: Eat from the food trucks at ShopFest while the island band plays.
- Mid-afternoon: Leave ShopFest with enough time to drop off what you bought, grab jackets, and reach the depot at 12210 83rd St East by 4:15 to 4:30.
- 4:45 p.m.: Boarding begins, and the North Pole Express pulls out at 5:15.
- 9 p.m.: Get back to Parrish after about 2½ hours of campfires, cocoa and a visit with Santa at the North Pole.
Only one step in that day needs advance planning, and it's the train ticket. Everything at the park is free and walk-up.
